Happy New Year, 2016 – On December 18, 2015, President Obama signed the Omnibus Spending Bill H.R. 2029 and the PATH Act (Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes Act of 2015) into law.
The new legislation provides an unprecedented five-year extension to the Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) program through 2019, and reauthorizes Empowerment Zones through 2016.
In addition, the PATH Act extends the WOTC program to include long-term unemployed (“Qualified long-term employed recipients, which is not less than 27 consecutive weeks).
CMS’ Brian Kelly states “This new legislation, the PATH Act, stabilizes our business community and helps to get our long-term unemployed citizens back into the workforce. Kuddos to the Senate Finance Committee, Congress and our President, great job!!”
