At CMS, as Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) experts and service providers since 1997, we receive a lot of questions via our website’s chat box that we try to answer:
I am an ex-felon. Can I let an employer know they can get a tax credit for hiring me?
CMS Says: Yes, absolutely. Employers are eligible for the Work Opportunity Tax Credit when they hire an ex-felon within one year of their conviction or release. If you believe you will qualify, definitely let them know, especially if it’s a small employer and you’re not sure if they are aware of WOTC. They can find more information on the Target Groups on our website http://www.cmswotc.com/wotc-categories/.
