At CMS, as Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) experts and service providers since 1997, we receive a lot of questions via our website’s chat box that we try to answer:
If we hire temporary employees for 90 days can we claim the WOTC on those 90 days or not until after we directly hire them?
CMS Says: Hi, hiring temporary employees for 90 days (probationary period?) is fine. They just have to meet that magic 120 hour mark. Even most part-time employees should reach that target within 90 days:
Weekly Hours | Hourly Wage Example | Weekly Wages | Weeks to 120 Hours | Weeks to 400 Hours | Weeks to $6,000 in Wages |
10 | $15 | 150 | 12 | 40 | 40 |
15 | $15 | 225 | 8 | 26.6 | 26.5 |
20 | $15 | 300 | 6 | 20 | 20 |
25 | $15 | 375 | 4.8 | 16 | 16 |
30 | $15 | 450 | 4 | 13.3 | 13.5 |
35 | $15 | 525 | 3.4 | 11.4 | 11.5 |
40 | $15 | 600 | 3 | 10 | 10 |
