At CMS, as Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) experts and service providers since 1997, we receive a lot of questions via our website’s chat box:
Is there a way to see if a WOTC Tax Credit submission is going to be denied before I even submit it?
CMS Says: This is a good follow up question to our last WOTC question What are the reasons for denials of WOTC? The only way to tell if a submission is going to be denied is for you to closely review the WOTC forms 8850 and 9061 before sending to the State Workforce Agency. Double check for any errors on the form, questions that are checked that you know should not be, or questions unchecked when you know they should be. Making sure the forms are submitted within the 28 day window is also important. If a State Workforce Agency requests follow up from your employee, it’s important to provide it within the stated timeframe as well.
