At CMS, as Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) experts and service providers since 1997, we receive a lot of questions via our website’s chat box that we try to answer:
How long does it take for the IRS to approve the WOTC Tax Credit?
CMS Says: It depends on which state you are in, and which target group the credit falls under. Some states are super fast at processing online applications, and there are still states that do not process applications online, which tends to be faster. If the state has a backlog, due to WOTC hiatuses, or large volume, it can take longer. Between three to six months is normal, but it can take longer than that. WOTC is something you can’t expect a quick turn around in, but it is worth the wait.
