WOTC Wednesday: Are employees eligible if they check more than one box on their WOTC forms?

CMS’s Brian Kelly answers your questions about the Work Opportunity Tax Credit.

Today’s WOTC Wednesday question: Are employees eligible if they check more than one box on the WOTC forms?

CMS Responds: The Work Opportunity Tax Credit is a federal hiring incentive designed to get folks from 10 target groups back into the workforce. Qualifying new hires may check multiple boxes and appear to be eligible for more than one target group. They might be a Long Term Unemployed person who has received food stamps or SNAP for example. However, a State Workforce Agency will only issue a certification for one of the targeted groups.

CMS has over 25 years of experience and we know that between 10-15 percent of all new hires qualify for the WOTC program.
